“I believe that the RT300 is a big reason why I’ve had so much recovery and continue to see improvements.”
— Kelly M.
Kelly was in her third year of optometry school when she was paralyzed due to an auto-immune disease. She was paralyzed from the nose down, including her vocal cords, and had complete brain and spinal cord swelling.
Kelly first heard about the RT300 at acute inpatient rehab at Magee in Philadelphia.
“I knew right away that I wanted to have the bike at home. I used it as much as I could during therapy hours, but knew I’d see even more progress if I had one of my own.”
Kelly uses her device at least 3 times a week, alternating with a standing frame.
“I hadn’t seen my leg move in months and to suddenly be ‘riding a bike’ again…indescribable.”
Since using the RT300, Kelly’s legs have been more toned, have better coloration, and aren’t as spastic. She has not had any atrophy or skin breakdown, which she is very happy about.
“I just wish I had been able to start using it sooner.”
When Kelly doesn’t use her device regularly, she gets stiff and more spastic, making her everyday life harder.
Kelly’s goal is to be successful in her career and to raise awareness about to lack of accessibility in today’s world. In her free time, she likes to cook, read, and try out new adaptive sports. She also enjoys traveling and going to wineries.
We are excited to follow you on your journey, Kelly!
“Don’t underestimate yourself. Don’t let your injury/illness hold you back from your dreams.”
