“I feel like I’ve been closer to being able to move my feet.”
— Shane H.
On November 25th, 2018, Shane fell of his roof while hanging Christmas lights. This resulted in a fracture in his T8-9 vertebrae with spinal cord damage at the T6 level.
He spent 5 days in Johns Hopkins Bayview and was later moved to Good Samaritan for inpatient rehab.
On January 28th, 2019, Shane was introduced to the RT300 at Kennedy Krieger Institute.
“It was nice to feel some stimulation in my legs and see them moving again,” said Shane.
He was in a study where he used his device for an hour 3 days a week, until he got a device for home in December of 2019.
When asked about his device, Shane said it was a “great tool I try to use as often as possible to help my recovery.”
Since using the device regularly, Shane’s legs have not been as tight and he feels that the device prevents his legs from having spasms.
“I’m starting to see some progress as far as movement in my legs. And learning to use braces to walk.”
Now Shane stays active and enjoys hobbies such as hand cycling and adaptive CrossFit. He also likes to go for walks, going to the beach and spending time with his dog, family, and friends.
His dream is to walk again, or just live life similar to before his injury.
“Initially, it’s hard to cope with and there are still some hard days. I found it very helpful when I started surrounding myself with people in similar situations and learning from people who have lived this life longer than me.”
We look forward to seeing you reach your goals, Shane!
