Each year, the hype around the super bowl for those in the sports world is huge, but for many it is the commercials that stand as the main reason to tune in. With such a large audience, only those companies with the top revenues can even afford to have a 30-second spot during the big game. This year we at Render Perfect, your video marketing experts in Baltimore and beyond, wanted to have a look at some of our favorite super bowl commercials since the year 2000.
E Trade – Monkey
Starting the list strong with E*Trade’s spot from the turn of the century, this monkey ad poked fun at the outrageous expense associated with Super Bowl ads. The message is simple: spending $2,000,000 on a monkey dancing, and there are better ways to spend $2,000,000—like investing using E*Trade’s platform. Today, E*Trade uses its signature baby in its Super Bowl ads, but the monkey spot has earned its place in the Super Bowl ad hall of fame.
Snickers – Betty White
The late, great Betty White graced the Super Bowl with her presence in this 2010 Snickers ad, which poked fun at her old age and inability to perform on the football field. Only Betty White could have played this part with the perfect balance of humor and intensity, and her performance has led to this spot’s staying power. Snickers knew what it was doing with this one.
Budweiser – Puppy Love
Budweiser is another mainstay of the Super Bowl commercial space, with a solid 18 commercials between 2010 and 2020. This “Puppy Love” spot is arguably the most memorable. Budweiser knew viewers couldn’t resist watching the bond between a new puppy and a Budweiser Clydesdale, and their feel-good love story stole the show in 2014’s game.
Volkswagen – The Force
In 2011, Volkswagen took the coveted “best ad of the game” title with this nod to Star Wars. Using “The Force” to point out the car’s remote start feature, the brand could bring a fresh perspective to the auto ad space. Plus, it gave viewers a chance to tap into their childhood curiosity and remember what it was like to connect with their imaginations. Check it out!
